I like to think of this day, July 4th, as an all inclusive celebration where friends, family, people you don’t know or those no longer here, get to celebrate a day together. Its just one of those nice days we all love and sometime take for granted.
I was on my way to place 2 flags and some flowers for my children when I ventured through my town of Rutland, MA and noticed all the chairs starting to line the streets. I knew the parade was happening as it does every year but this time it seemed different as everyone was outside enjoying each others company. When I was coming back throught from my visit, I decided to stop and join in but more specifically, to take pictures of the event. I was now here to observe what was making me think that this time was so different. Everyone was laughing or talking, they were smiling at those passing by, and there were many small children just playing and running around. Everyone was happy even though it was hot as hell. Everyone was waiting for this day and time.
When the parade started coming up the street, it seemed like everyone stopped what they were doing and started to watch or listen with excitement, and observe the creativity from the locals, without a care in the world as they passed by. There was not a single unhappy person in the crowd as I walked up one side and back down the other taking pictures. I managed to take some pretty cool pictures of the event without really knowing anyone there and yet enjoyed some casual small talk as the parade slowly passed by. There was a line of traffic that was stopped on both ends of town and not a single person was heard complaining while they sat there for about an hour. Whoa!
Just a simple observation about the once a year celebration of this wonderful country we live in. Enjoy the photos and Happy 4th of July.
